I want a new 22" LCD monitor...

Postby Burty on Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:26 pm

Hey guys,

Ok, so thus far I've been making do with a standard 19" Dell monitor... you know the type, usual square 4:3 aspect monitor.

I've thought about going dual screen because of the video editing I do and my graphics card has dual outputs so that's doable...

However, I saw my mates 22" widescreen LCD and fell in love... I reckon it's a good way to go. But what to get!?

So I want a 22" LCD monitor...

My colleague bought this, which apparently looks amazing and image quality is awesome.... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/086906 - only downside is that the transistors used inside this make it a very noisy screen - a noticeable high pitch whine which would annoy the hell outta me... hmm.... :?

Any alternatives or suggestions or recommendations? Let me know!

My mate in Scotland who's well into his gadgets and gizmos (has a 50" Samsung HDTV in his lounge.... *drools*) has a large Samsung monitor in his office!! I'll see if I can find out the model number!! He's also got a 2nd slightly smaller Samsung one next to it as he does web design and programming for a living and likes the extra space!!
I am hungry, I am incorrigible, I AM MAN!!

Grant me the serenity to accept things that I cannot change, the courage to change things I cannot accept and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I have had to kill because they get on my nerves.

It's basically 22 tho hey... I'm not prepared to split hairs... you'll have to tell me how you're finding it.... has it got the noise like the other model? I've noticed this whine on my Dell monitor too, you have to turn it off at the mains to kill the noise as its there even when on standby...

And more importantly, what's the image like!? :D

well atm it looks good but ive yet 2 use it properly as 1 of the sticks of RAM that came with all the kit was knackered & have spent many hours banging my head against a brick wall trying to sort out where the problem was. Anyway, with some help from Wiz & Ikill, we narrowed it down so i really haven't had much time to 'play' with my toys yet as I wanna w8 till I get this sorted. It also depends on how much u wanna spend on a tft/lcd, the one i listed suited my budget so i'ts hard 2 say if its great or not. :P

Well sub £200 would be good as I reckon I should be able to get a good screen for that... let me know how you get on with it... I'll do some more research! :D

I have a Hewlett Packard HP w2207 no noise from transistors or the like. If you have a dark/black screen you can see a little light bleed but other than that it's tops.

I have 2 PC's running off it, one is through the usual RGB or whatever and the image is so so, my gaming rig is digital and it's like 2 different monitors, and it can be got for sub £200.

Well I prefer LCD screens, just because in my opinion they are clearer. But also what are you using it for primarily?

For gaming you don't want a monitor with 4-5 ms. It's basically in a newbie version going to make it *lag* without connection issues. The picture won't be able to handle all the fps (frames per second) streaming across the screen.

If I were you, I like Asus. I have one and love it. It's 22" and would never go any bigger. Only because Asus is so good I'd choose:
